I am a long-time resident of Lexington and have a daughter attending Lexington High School.
We (she) attended Waldorf primary and middle schools, providing me with a perspective that spans private and public education.
We eventually chose Lexington High for its rigorous curriculum and high academic standing, and considered our daughter ready to take it on.
I love learning and truly feel it never ends and can happen anywhere: with or without fancy tools, cool lights and comfy chairs! I believe that balanced learning tools is key: books, the internet, and human interaction. And, I believe learning knows no bounds. For instance, despite a lack of musical talent, I continue to learn guitar. I am a beginner after many years, but enjoy the opportunity.
Nowadays, I am an applied technologist. As a member of the technical staff at Staples Velocity Lab in Cambridge, I architect mobile, web, big data and cloud solutions. Over the years I have worked in the public, private and government sectors in finance, retail, insurance, health, travel, e-commerce, and have touched most every technology. I saw the birth of the WWW.
In my earlier career I was a scientist (once a scientist always a scientist!). I studied at MIT for too many years, earning a Ph.D. in Geophysics. I worked with the very first GPS satellites and measured tectonic plate motions between Eurasia, Africa and Arabia. I came to US from Turkey 30 years ago as a student, met my wife in the North End and we eventually made Lexington our home.
I now organize multiple meetups for the technology community in the areas of Java, Android, wearables and google. And, I love to kayak. You can always join me on trips along the Charles River, Boston Harbor and the Maine coastline.
